For most home cooks, the chef’s knife is probably the most common tool to use for your daily cooking. With a strong, sharp, and at the same time, versatile blade, your chef’s knives are capable of chopping and cutting all kinds of ingredients. And to make cutting onions, carrots, tomatoes, and all kinds of sticky ingredients easier, chef’s knives with indentations are the ones that you should be looking for. Make sure you select the best of products that come with good ergonomics.

Paring knife

For peeling and trimming, the paring knife is undoubtedly a great choice. It’s your best companion when it comes to vegetables thanks to its functionalities. The sharp and flexible blade will make dedicated cuts or trims much easier, even for novice cooks.

Serrated knife

You would also need a serrated knife for cutting your bread. The rough edges will allow you to slice through thick bread without damaging the texture. And for those who love having cake and pie, it’s important to get an offset serrated knife. This clever design will elevate your hand and prevent your fingers from ruining the presentation.

Boning knife

For the average home cook, the three above-mentioned knives should be more than enough. However, if you’re planning to get serious about cooking, you’re going to need a boning knife. The thin and flexible blade helps it separate meat and bones effectively. With a little bit of skill and dedication, you’ll have a perfectly deboned piece of meat, ready for any kind of cooking.

Step 1 - First, you’re going to need a sharpening stone with two sides for two different grit levels. It’s recommended that you get the best Amazon products so that you can stick with it for a long time. You’ll also need a solid platform that you can securely position your sharpening stone on.

Step 2 – Next, you’ll need to soak your sharpening stone in water for about 20 minutes until there are no air bubbles left.

Step 3 – You’ll need to put your sharpening stone on the cradle that comes with it or on a dry towel. This will secure the stone on your table when you perform the sharpening.

Step 4 – Start with the coarse side of the stone, and slide the sharp edge of your knife on it while holding onto the two ends. Maintain an aligned angle of 15 degrees between your knife and the surface of the stone. Do this a few times, depending on how dull your knife is. If the stone gets dry during the process, feel free to add some water.

Step 5 – Switch back to the fine side of the stone and repeat the whole sharpening process. Once you’re done, you should clean your knives and the sharpening stone thoroughly.
